Recap: Trade log for the week of July 27

Sat, August 1, 2026 - 4 min read

Stocks absorbed a sharp midweek break and still finished higher. From Friday to Friday, the S&P 500 rose from 7,412 to 7,490, up 1.0%, and the Nasdaq climbed from 24,976 to 25,374, up 1.6%. Russell was flat, VIX fell from 18.58 to 15.99, and crude dropped from $89.31 to $84.67, down 5.2%.

Monday I rolled the GOOG 7/31 $342.50 cash-secured put out one week to 8/7 at the same strike. The new contract brought in $16.59 against a $15.29 close, leaving a $130 gross credit and $127.94 net after both fees. Tuesday I sold the DG 7/31 $135 and WMT 7/31 $120 covered calls. Both expired worthless Friday for another $33.19 net. Total net options premium for the week was $161.13 on $59,421 of peak deployed capital, a 0.27% weekly ROC.

Over the past month, the portfolio produced $1,959.65 in net P/L, up 3.28%, while SPY gained 0.30%. Monthly max drawdown was limited to -0.98%. Realized income was $179.53, including $57.20 in premiums, $59 in dividends, and $63.33 in interest, while the holdings and open-position marks did most of the work.

Year to date, the portfolio is at $11,177.40 net P/L, up 14.02%, versus 9.54% for SPY. That is a 4.48 percentage-point lead. Max drawdown remains -9.92%, with a 1.19 Sharpe, 1.84 Sortino, and $10,358.37 in realized income. The GOOG 8/7 $342.50 put is the only open options contract. We have 59% cash available and will stay patient while that position works.

Standout Names from this Week’s Boring CSPs

CSCO had the strongest follow-through from Monday night’s board. It opened Tuesday at $114.13 and closed Friday at $115.99, up 1.6%, while remaining above the posted $110 strike.

Ticker Contract Setup Score Contract Score mIQ Move
CSCO 7/31 $110 PUT 56.1 57 Risky $114.13 → $115.99 (+1.6%)

The contract still carried a Risky MIQ read because of its wide spread and thin cushion, so the underlying move was favorable without changing the entry discipline.
