Recap: Trade log for the week of September 7
Stocks pulled back during the holiday-shortened week. From Friday to Friday, the S&P 500 fell 0.8%, the Nasdaq lost 0.7%, and the Russell 2000 dropped 2.4%. VIX rose 9.0% to 15.84, while crude gained 9.4% to $100.05.
We mostly rolled positions and let the existing holdings work. On Wednesday, the TXN 9/11 $265 put was bought back at $6.77 and rolled to the 9/18 $265 put at $9.31, producing $251.90 in net cash flow after fees. The CSCO 9/11 $110 put was bought back at $1.16 and rolled to the 9/18 $110 put at $2.06, adding another $87.91 after fees. Both replacement puts remain open.
The WMT 9/11 $117 covered call expired worthless for $4.96 of realized P/L, but that premium was received last week and is not counted again in this week’s cash flow. WMT also paid a $25 dividend on Tuesday. The two rolls generated $339.81 in net option cash flow, and the dividend brought total weekly cash flow to $364.81. That is 0.74% ROC on $49,171 of peak active-option capital.
The portfolio is up $13,887.63, or 17.74%, year to date versus 12.08% for SPY, a lead of 5.66 percentage points. Max drawdown remains -9.92%, with 57% of capital in cash and $37,500 of option collateral currently deployed. We are comfortably outperforming SPY and positioned to finish the year strong. Next week, we will keep playing defense on TXN and CSCO if needed while looking for opportunities to sell covered calls against our holdings.
