Recap: Trade log for the week of September 14
Markets were mixed from Friday to Friday. The S&P 500 slipped 0.1%, the Nasdaq gained 0.7%, and the Russell 2000 fell 1.5%. VIX declined 6.5% to 14.81, while crude edged 0.2% higher to $100.30.
We remained mostly hands-off and managed the two puts already in play. On Tuesday, the CSCO 9/18 $110 put was bought back at $0.82 and rolled down and out to the 9/25 $109 put at $1.24, producing $39.91 in net cash flow after fees. On Wednesday, the TXN 9/18 $265 put was bought back at $3.06 and rolled down and out to the 9/25 $262.50 put at $4.56, adding another $147.91 after fees.
The DG 9/18 $136 covered call expired worthless on Friday for $18.96 of net premium. Together, the two rolls and expired call generated $206.78 in weekly option cash flow, equal to 0.41% ROC on $51,000 of peak active-option capital. We will continue rolling down and out when needed until we can let the puts expire worthless. For now, we are hoping TXN and CSCO hold above their new strikes through next Friday.
The portfolio is up $13,734.41, or 17.66%, year to date versus 11.69% for SPY, a lead of 5.97 percentage points. Max drawdown remains -9.92%, with 58% of capital in cash and $37,150 of option collateral currently deployed. As the fourth and final quarter approaches, we are comfortably ahead of SPY and positioned for a strong finish while keeping the same patient, mostly hands-off posture.
